Overview

T he Museum featured Michael Izrael Galmer’s stunning piece “Tears of the Holocaust” in 2017 to a large, emotional audience. The work displayed was inspired by the artist’s grandchildren’s queries about the meaning of the Holocaust; the sculpture depicts the rebirth, regrowth and strengthening that follows tragedy and frames in a positive light the importance of encouraging the young in their resilient battle against the hardships they will face in life.

I chose to donate the sculpture to the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center because of its potential to inspire future generations with perseverance and hope. The sculpture is meant to put the Holocaust into a context of pride in the strength of the Jewish people, and all victims who, ultimately, prevail over evil.
